EDINBURGH, Ind. (WISH) - Joseph Simpson, 44, is in custody Saturday after confessing to the murder of Emmeria Kaye Ellis, 46, earlier this week .
Ellis was reported missing last week. When police went to her home they found her dead in her living room. The cause of death was from a gun shot wound.
Friday afternoon, Edinburgh Police and Bartholomew County Sheriff's found Simpson's car parked outside a relative's house, said police
Officers observed the house for a while. Shortly after, they saw Simpson walking to his car.
After a short foot chase Simpson was put in custody.
Investigators found a gun in Simpson's coat pocket that later proved to the murder weapon.
In a police interview, Simpson confessed to killing Ellis.
He is being held in the Johnson County jail and is charged with murder –a class A felony—and a class B felony for possession of a firearm.
No bond has been set for the murder charge, but a $20,000 bond has been set for possession of a firearm.
Johnson County Prosecutors will hear the case next week.
