JOHNSON COUNTY (WISH) - Yes ... there's an app for that. Students at Center Grove MiddleSchool Central are using iPads to learn English.
The school recently purchased 20 iPads for students enrolled inits "English as a New Language" program.
Students were introduced to the iPads Wednesday. Center GroveCommunity School Corporation Technology Director, Julie Bohnenkamp,was in the classroom to observe.
She says the kids were able to pick up an iPad, launch anapplication and begin learning.
Bohnenkamp says the school has identified 30 differentapplications to help teach the kids. One application allows thechildren to translate words and sentences into English in justseconds.
Students in the class come from a variety of backgrounds. Thelanguages they speak include Spanish, Ukrainian, and Japanese.
The school district says the iPad project is a pilot program.State funded dollars earmarked for the "English as a New Language"program were used to buy the iPads.
