BROWNSBURG, Ind. (WISH) - The Indiana Department of Transportation gave the Town of Brownsburg control over State Road 267.
Brownsburg was given control over a 4.34-mile stretch of road from County Road 200 North to County Road 700 North.
The agreement was approved by the Brownsburg Town Council Thursday night. The Town of Avon and Hendricks County Commissioners also have control over the sections of the road that pass through their respective town limits.
In the agreement, INDOT gave $250,000 to the town to use toward planning and designing road improvements from 56th Street to U.S. 136. Officials say they want to modify the road into a three-lane road with bike lanes, trails, lighting and landscaping.
The town has asked for $3.2 million from the Highway Safety Improvement to fund the project and money from the town's tax Increment Funding will fund the rest.
