KOKOMO, Ind. (WISH) - Two Kokomo teens were airlifted to Riley Hospital for Children at IU Health Thursday night after the mo-ped they were in was hit by a vehicle. The driver left the scene, 24-Hour News 8 news partner The Kokomo Tribune reports.
Christian Reede, 13, who was driving the mo-ped suffered head and internal injuries. His passenger, Donte Brown, suffered an upper leg fracture.
They were both listed in critical condition Thursday night. Neither boys were wearing helmets.
The accident happened around 8:45 p.m. on Center Road. Witnesses tell police a white Ford was driving west on Center Road and as it was turning south on Highland Springs Drive, hit the mo-ped head on.
The boys were ejected from the mo-ped and the driver continued to drive onto Highland Spring Drive. Police were unable to locate the truck.
Witnesses described the vehicle as a possible late-model Ford Escape.
