ZIONSVILLE, Ind. (WISH) - 3,000 patients and their families gathered Saturday for the 15th Annual NICU Reunion.
St. Vincent Carmel Hospital, St. Vincent Women’s Hospital and the St. Vincent Foundation gathered to celebrate the annual reunion for the Newborn Intensive Care Unit.
The celebration was first organized in 1998 by a nurse in her basement, according to a release from the hospital. The nurse and her team searched through a phonebook to identify and invite 500 patients and their families to that year’s event.
The event has grown to include 3,000 patients and their families who come to the reunion to reconnect with hospital staff.
Saturday’s reunion included pony rides and face painting stations, an inflatable area, carnival games and snacks.
