SHELBY COUNTY, Ind. (WISH) - Police on Monday identified two people killed in a crash in Shelby County Sunday afternoon.
The Shelby County Sheriff's Department received a call shortly before 4:30 p.m. about a crash at State Road 252 and State Road 9 in the county.
When officers arrived they found two vehicles off the southeast corner of the intersection. The driver and passenger of a Ford were pronounced dead at the scene. They have been identified as Joshua Sanchez-Nagakane and Jennifer Nagakane.
The driver of the second vehicle, a Cadillac, suffered an injury to her lower leg and was taken to IU Health Methodist Hospital by ambulance. One passenger in that car was not injured. A 3-year-old was also in the vehicle, police say, and was also taken to Methodist to be treated for minor injuries.
After investigating, it was determined the Cadillac was traveling southbound on State Road 9 while the Ford was eastbound on Ind. 252. Police say the Ford failed to stop at the intersection and entered part of Ind. 9.
The driver of the Cadillac was unable to avoid hitting the Ford.
Toxicology results are pending as the investigation continues.
