MORGAN COUNTY, Ind. (WISH) - Indiana State Police say an accident involving an on-duty ISP trooper shut down Interstate 70 Sunday evening in Morgan County.
The crash happened at the 51 mile marker and shut down I-70 eastbound and westbound lanes, police say.
State Police in Indianapolis say the crash involved ISP First Sergeant Jon Watson, who was on a motorcycle.
Preliminary information reveals the crash happened about one mile from the start of a construction zone where signs read the left lane would close, according to a release. For an unknown reason, a Chevrolet Suburban changed from the right lane to the left lane without signaling.
The SUV collided with Watson, causing his motorcycle to roll several times.
Dispatchers with ISP say Watson was airlifted to IU Health Methodist Hospital with multiple fractures to his leg and severe abrasions. He is expected to make a full recovery.
Impairment was not found to be a factor in this crash, police say.
