INDIANAPOLIS (AP) - Indiana's major political parties are touting a pair of national party favorites for their major fundraising dinners this summer.
The Indiana Republican Party announced Monday that Wisconsin Gov. Scott Walker will headline its summer fundraiser July 9. U.S. Rep. Joaquin Castro of Texas is set to headline the Democrats' dinner on Friday.
Walker used much of former Indiana Gov. Mitch Daniels' conservative playbook in Wisconsin and survived a recall battle last year after he cut collective bargaining rights for public employees. Castro is a rising star in Democratic circles who has worked the national campaign circuit recently.
Top Democrats and Republicans toured the state last year during Indiana's U.S. Senate battle. But 2013 is expected to be a much quieter year in politics without any Indiana elections.
