Sen. Todd Young co-sponsors bill to keep immigrant families together

INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) — A Republican Senator from Indiana is supporting a bill that aims to keep immigrant families together.

Sen. Todd Young is co-sponsoring the Protect Kids and Parents Act.

“America can be a nation of laws while still being a nation of compassion,” Young said in a statement. “The current situation is the result of years of bad policies that have come to a boiling point, and now is the time to act. The Protect Kids and Parents Act will allow us to address the immigration backlog without separating families.”

The bill was introduced by Sen. Ted Cruz of Texas. The bill ensures that immigrant families are kept together and immigration hearings are expedited

Sen. Joe Donnelly says he is co-sponsoring a similar move called the “Keep Families Together Act.”

“Those trying to enter our country illegally should be held accountable and we should fix our broken immigration system, but I don’t support the Admin.’s new policy that separates children from their families,” Donnelly said.
