INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) - In person, it'll be easy to hear but not so easy to see the RCADome come down Saturday morning.
Authorities set up a safety perimeter around the Dome Thursday. The view from outside the perimeter isn't so good.
"You're almost always blocked by something. So, if you'restanding at ground level...you're not going to see anything," saidDemolition Project Manager Tom Scheele.
On the south side of the perimeter, for example, there's alittle something called Lucas Oil Stadium, which blocks the view.
Not much is visible from West and Maryland either because theConvention Center's in the way. In fact, 24-Hour News 8 only foundtwo places with really decent views: One at the corner of South,West and Kentucky and another at the corner of Illinois andGeorgia.
"We're kind of frowning on the public event only because wedon't want a whole bunch of people all the sudden saying, 'Wellthere's no place to stand,' because there really isn't. And that'swhy we have not set up a presupposed viewing area, because therejust isn't any good one," said Scheele.
There was a good crowd on a sunny day in the summer of 2001 whenMarket Square Arena was brought to the ground. On the other hand,in the middle of December, on the last Saturday before Christmas, fewer people may feel moved to head downtown to watch animplosion.
One Indianapolis man says he'll have better things to do.
"Family visits...just kind of getting the house, spending timewith the family. I would not bring my children or wife down here towatch the implosion of the Dome," said Justin Brown.
"It's worth seeing, but seeing from where? And I really believethat the best spot will be on TV," said Scheele.
