INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) - The Indiana Fever kicked off their home opener Friday night against the Atlanta Dream and, thanks to last year's championship, more fans than ever cheered them on.
Before the game, an evening of celebration filled Bankers Life Fieldhouse as the Indiana Fever along with fans raised the 2012 WNBA championship banner. While the players received their championship rings from WNBA President Laurel Richie, fans received their own replica rings.
Indiana Fever President and General Manager, Kelly Krauskopf says the team's success has boosted revenue. She says season ticket revenue has risen 65 percent from last year and corporate support has increased 20 percent.
"You've got a lot of people that were watching us from afar and who are now investing in us and you know people like to be associated with winners," said Krauskopf.
Update: According to the Lafayette Police Department, Lafayette area schools have been checked and the threat has been deemed not credible and lockdown lifted.
