Danica Patrick crashes out of her last Indy 500

SPEEDWAY, Ind. (WISH) — The day was supposed to be one for the ages. A starting position in the third row, Green Bay Packers quarterback boyfriend Aaron Rodgers at her side, and a shot to end her storied career with an Indy 500 win. But Lap 68 decided the fate of Danica Patrick.

“I did feel like it was pretty unexpected. On the other hand, the car was a little bit positive today. I was turning a bit more than I wanted to. Just had to chase it a lot. It’s not really the way I wanted to end, of course. I wouldn’t want to end any year like that but, being the last one, it makes it a lot worse,” Patrick said.

Danica started seventh, but that marked the closest she would get to the front of the pack. Despite the overwhelming disappointment, Patrick still showed a lot of gratitude to those who made her send-off special.

“I will say I am very grateful for everybody and being able to finish up like I wanted to. It still was a lot of great moments this month,” Patrick said.

Some stars get a proper sendoff. Others have to leave to a different tune.

“It’s tough to drive. Is that like the Oscars, when you’re supposed to shut up? They play the music. They took my mic away even. Take my mic away. I’ll leave, I promise. I don’t wanna be here. I’m pretty sad,” Patrick said.

A sad ending to the career of the most famous female driver in all of motorsports.
