Police provide tips for navigating traffic on race day

INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) – The Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department, in conjunction with the Speedway Police Department, Indiana State Police and the Marion County Sheriff’s Office, have announced traffic patterns, closures, and routes for the 102nd running of the Indianapolis 500!

All parking lots at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway are sold out. If you have not already secured parking there will be no speedway parking available, police advise to plan accordingly.

Inbound traffic

Parking north of the track:

  • 30th Street: Enter southbound from Interstate 65 onto Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Street, then west on 30th Street.

  • 38th Street west to Georgetown Road.

Parking south of the track:

  • 16th Street from the east: Access 16th Street from Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Street.

Parking west of the track:

  • 38th Street to Moller Road.

  • Crawfordsville Road east from I-465.

  • 10th Street eastbound from I-465 to Lynhurst Drive.

  • Rockville Road east from I-465 to Lynhurst Drive.

Road closures:

  • Holt Road from Washington to 16th streets.

  • 10th Street from White River Parkway West Drive to Lynhurst Drive.

  • Polco Street from 10th to 16th streets.

Outbound traffic

One-way traffic patterns:

  • 16th Street from Gate 2 to MLK Jr. Street. I-65 can be accessed by going north or south on MLK Jr. Street.

  • 30th Street from Gate 10a to I-65.

  • Lynhurst Drive from Crawfordsville Road to 10th Street.

  • 10th Street from Lynhurst Drive to I-465.
