Indy Eleven to submit bid to become MLS expansion franchise

INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) – Indianapolis may soon get a Major League Soccer team.

24-Hour News 8’s Anthony Calhoun has learned that Indy Eleven is expected to submit a bid to become an MLS expansion franchise.

The league announced in Dec. it was looking to expand by four teams.

The team is expected to submit the bid Tuesday.

Teams that enter the bidding process must provide three things:

1. A description of ownership structure and financial information.

2. A business plan, financial projections and commitment letter for stadium naming rights and jersey-front sponsor.

3. Details on the proposed stadium site, financing plan, required goverment approvals and support from public officials.

League officials say two of the four new teams being added to MLS will have to pay $150 million to join. The fee for the other two new teams has not been set.

Indy Eleven has failed in the past to get funding from the City-County Council to build a stadium.
