FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WANE) - The TinCaps' Saturday postseason game gave the team a new attendance record. The record, which is for the combined regular season and postseason total, is 410,459 fans.
The record breaks the old record, set in 2012, of 408,044 fans.
"Every year the ballpark's open, we attract new fans and new people to the ballpark," Michael Limmer, the team's vice president of marketing and promotions, said. "And the ones who have already been at the ballpark are coming back. We attribute our continued success to being able to put out a quality and consistent product that's at an affordable price."
The TinCaps ended up losing the game, 7-5 to South Bend. Click here to read more about the TinCaps game.
"We try to make sure our promotions and our amenities continue to be new and improved," Limmer said. "With The Harrison being done has added to the ambiance of the ballpark. Also, with the addition of the 400 Club, out in center field, gives us another group and party area, but more importantly, a new aesthetic and new vantage point at the ballpark that fans have never seen here in Fort Wayne before."
Saturday's game had 2,486 fans, our sister station WANE reports.
"I think the 2013, in terms of setting a new attendance mark, is just a tribute to the way the fans have embraced this ballpark and team," Limmer said. "It really sets the bar high for us as a staff to be able to maintain that quality and to make sure things don't become stale."
On Labor Day weekend, the team welcomed its two-millionth fan to Parkview Field.
"We are so thankful to our great fans, the City of Fort Wayne, and the San Diego Padres," said TinCaps President Mike Nutter. "Our fans have wholly embraced the team and the unrivaled experience of attending a ballgame at Parkview Field, the city has given us tremendous support, and the Padres have put a playoff-bound team in Fort Wayne each of our five years downtown."
The TinCaps can still add to their new record. To do so, the team has to advance to the Midwest League Championship series.
