INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) - The Pacers were on their way to Miami Tuesday afternoon, gearing up for Wednesday's Game 1 of the Eastern Conference finals.
This is the Pacers' organization's first appearance in the conference finals in nearly a decade.
"It's awesome. We're all in this to compete for a championship, and we're in the final 4 in the NBA conference finals," said Pacers head coach Frank Vogel. "We win this series, we're the conference champs, and you've got a chance to win the whole thing, so it's a very exciting time for all of us."
"It means a lot," added Pacers forward Paul George. "You talk about progress, us being so young, making a step to win the Central division, getting back to winning the Eastern Conference finals, this organization is headed in the right direction."
With the defending championship on tap next in the Miami Heat, the Pacers have been tabbed as a major underdog, something they're plenty used to.
"If we play the Bobcats, we're the underdogs," joked George after Tuesday's shoot around. "We played that role, been that role, all year, all season long, so it's nothing new to us. It's beyond the point where we feel like we have an edge in that role, so we just go out and execute and do what we do."
Game 1 against Miami is Wednesday at 8:30pm at American Airlines Center.
