INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) - The Indiana Pacers started their new season against Orlando Magic on Tuesday night.
But, even before the game began, the team had a sense of success - at the box office.
"I think the market's responding very well to the team," said Todd Taylor, Chief of Sales and Marketing for the Pacers. "Obviously, it's a bunch of good guys that can really play the game. So we're starting to see that at the box office, for sure."
The team's play-off performance last season inspired new interest in the Pacers, this season.
The team says more than 92 percent of season ticket holders renewed their seats for this year. That's the "highest in quite some time."
They are also seeing a 30 percent increase in season ticket sales compared to this time last year, and a 50 percent increase in single game sales.
"That's really the biggest indicator of general public awareness and support," Taylor said.
Social media is another way to measure the growing popularity of the Pacers.
They've had a 25 percent gain in Facebook likes since the beginning of October.
Their website, www.Pacers.com, shows a 42 percent increase in web traffic when comparing October 2013 to October 2012.
Sponsors also like the Pacers. The team says 13 more companies have decided to support Indiana this year. It's a 10 percent increase over this time last year.
"I jokingly say I get a little smarter with every win. So these guys really made me a genius," Taylor told 24-Hour News 8. But, his job is to "make sure every family can come out here - anybody that's a Pacers fan can be a part of this action."
So, Taylor said his office will be sure to offer an array of ticket options.
"Until we can sell out for every single game, we've got plenty of work to do," he said.
A winter storm warning is in effect for most of Central Indiana.
It's very rare that a single person can reach across national, racial, and spiritual borders to bring such hope and healing.
Dispatchers with Indiana State Police say a vehicle left the roadway Thursday night off of Interstate 69.
