First day of summer a stormy one with below average high temps

INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) — Good Thursday morning, everyone! It’s the first day of summer, though it has felt like it for the better part of a month and a half or more.

We’ll struggle to see the nearly 15 hours of daylight today with an abundance of  scattered storms.

We’ll start our day in the upper 60s and low 70s and climb slowly into the upper 70s by this afternoon, below average for the first time in a long time.

Some storms this afternoon could be on the strong side, potentially severe with a threat for damaging wind and hail. Flash flooding will also be a threat as today’s storms have an abundance of gulf moisture to work with.

Scattered storms will linger into the late evening before clearing out a bit into the overnight.

We’ll see another round of widespread rain tomorrow. High temperatures Friday will top out in the low 80s.

The stormy end to the week will make the grounds at the Ruoff Home Mortgage Music Center a bit soggy. Make sure to wear a back-up pair of shoes to the Imagine Dragons concert if you’re attending and keep a poncho close-by just in case.

We’ll drop into the mid 60s by daybreak Saturday with a few storms set to linger around into the first half of the weekend. Highs will top out in the low 80s Saturday afternoon. If you have outdoor plans, just keep an umbrella handy to be safe.

We’ll finally start to dry out a bit as we head into next week, but as rain chances go down, summer heat will slowly return.

High temps by the end of next week will soar back into the low 90s, bringing additional rain chances our direction as early as this time next week.
