Humidity and rain chances ramp up heading into the holiday weekend

INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) — After a nice couple of days, muggy air and isolated storm chances return to the forecast.

TONIGHT:

Dry air continues across central Indiana this evening.  Expect comfortable temperatures overnight , with lows dipping to the upper 50s and lower 60s.

FRIDAY (CARB DAY):

High temperatures will run into the upper 80s, with heat index values in the lower 90s for much of the afternoon.

SATURDAY AND RACE DAY:

A combination of an upper level disturbance, combined with a possible tropical disturbance coming on shore along the Gulf, could spell a few pop up shower and storm chances both days this weekend.  As it appears, best chances for rain to occur will come along with heating of the day, and for the southern half of the state.  Even then, storm chances should remain relatively isolated, so overall, most should stay dry for many hours through the weekend.

Temperatures will be hot, topping out in the middle 80s on Saturday, and pushing 90° on Sunday.

The record hottest race day high was 92°, and we’ve only cracked into the 90s on race day 6 times – so some very rare air that continues into the weekend.

8 Day Forecast:

Memorial Day looks dry, but very hot, with highs around 90°.  The heat rolls on to start off the work week, with rain chances returning, albeit spotty, starting Wednesday.
