Rain returns to open up the work week

INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) — A soggy stretch will open the work week, with below-normal temperatures through much of the extended forecast.

Sunday night:

For most, it will be a mostly cloudy to cloudy evening across the area. A slow moving system floating in from the central Plains will push rain into portions of southwestern and southern Indiana late Sunday night into the overnight hours. The rain will likely stay south of the Indianapolis metro area, but we can’t rule out a few stray sprinkles from time to time overnight into early Monday morning.

For the most part, temperatures will remain mild with the clouds in place.  Exception will be far northern counties, where cloud cover won’t be quite as dense.  Lows to the north slide to the lower 40s, while everyone else hovers around 50 degrees.

Monday:

Previously mentioned upper level system continues to slide south of us, but close enough to bring widespread scattered showers to much of the area. Rain will be in the southern third of the state early, and push north toward the metro area by lunch time. Expect scattered showers to continue through the remainder of the day and into the evening hours.

Highs top out in the upper 50s and lower 60s.

Tuesday:

System continues to push through the Tennessee and Ohio Valley areas, bring more rounds of scattered light showers to the area.  Expect on and off rain throughout the day.

Highs top out around 60 degrees.

8 Day Forecast:

Cooler temperatures to follow our wet start to the work week, as highs only hit the middle to upper 50s on Wednesday. We’ll rebound a bit Thursday with sunshine. Another cold front pushes through on Friday morning, cooling our temperatures into the 50s and bringing isolated showers to the area. For now, the weekend looks nice, with near normal temperatures on Saturday, and 70s possibly making a comeback on Sunday!
