Storms are possible both Saturday and for the Indy 500 this Sunday

INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) — Happy Friday, everyone! We have reached the eve of Indy 500 weekend, one which looks to start off on a soggy note.

We’ll stay dry and sunny for the morning commute. Temps in most areas will start off in the upper 50s to mid 60s. Take the sunglasses with you as you head out the door because, similar to yesterday, we won’t have many morning clouds to break up the sunshine.

Temperatures will quickly surge into the mid to upper 80s this afternoon with more cloud cover by this evening.

We’ll stay dry though most of the day, but our next weathermaker will come knocking at the door by later this evening.

By 9 to midnight tonight, isolated storms will begin to push into central Indiana. Not everyone will get wet, but it would be wise to keep an umbrella close by if you’re heading out tonight. If you’ll be camping at IMS through the weekend, take the time to waterproof your site this afternoon/evening if possible because better rain and storm chances will move in Saturday.

Overnight lows will be fairly comfy, dropping into the mid to upper 60s by daybreak Saturday.

Highs will slowly climb into the mid 80s under a mostly cloudy sky. Scattered storms are possible as early as daybreak with better storm chances set to slide in Saturday afternoon. Some storms may have gusty winds, but none are likely to become severe.

Late Saturday evening, storms will begin to move out, but a few isolated storms will linger into the second half of the weekend. Highs will top out in the upper 80s for the Indy 500, making it one of the hottest on record.

We’ll catch another break in the action early next week, so you’ll have an opportunity to get some yard work done before more rain moves in by mid-week.

Some rain by Wednesday could have a tropical influence as a storm complex, currently off the Yucatan, tries to push north to the Ohio Valley.

We could use some rainfall and it looks like we’ll at least see some through mid-week to the end of next work week. Enjoy!
