Native Sun: Independent hip-hop trio with a voice for social justice

Why is Indianapolis called ‘Naptown?” According to Native Sun, it’s because it’s the most slept-on city in America. The band, who has earned a reputation as a first-call backing band in the Indy hip-hop scene, has just released an EP titled, “Legalize Being Black,” which was recorded at the iconic Vogue Theatre for the 2020 Indy Jazz Fest.

Native Sun has always been a voice for social justice, and the elements of its performance come together to shed light on the journey to social justice and equality, but also spread love and positivity in these uncertain times.

Native Sun includes Bobby Young (vocals); Shawn McGowan (keyboard); Brandon Meeks (bass); and Richard “Sleepy” Floyd (drums).
