Community Link: Bosma Enterprises

INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) — This week on Community Link, we’re discussing a non-profit organization based in Indianapolis that helps Hoosiers who are visually impaired preserve their independence. 

Bosma Enterprises Chief Operating Officer Jeffrey Mittman dropped by our studios to share more information. 

Tell us about the organization and what it’s about.

Bosma Enterprises is a private non-profit organization that is here to provide opportunities for those who are blind or visually impaired through either employment or rehabilitating services. 

What programs are offered for the blind and visually impaired? 

Bosma is really set up and it has 3 legs to the Bosma stool, if you will. So we have the business side where we are producing products for our commercial and government partners. We have the program side where we are providing services for Hoosiers who are blind or visually impaired and we have a private foundation that raises money to support those programs because they are not cheap to run.

You also run the Independent Living Store. Tell us about that.

Well the independent living store our visual aids has everything a person who is blind or visually impaired may need to get through the day. So we have everything from canes to talking watches to anything that they may need to help them with their activities on their daily living so they can maintain their independence in their own home. 

How can Hoosiers get in contact with you and obtain your services?

There’s a lot of ways to help. We have a website set up and if you go to that page by clicking here, there’s buttons there where you can say ‘hey i wanna give, i want to donate’ and you can hit that button and it’ll take you to the place where you can donate to the organization. We also have one that says get help so if you have a family member a friend or even yourself who needs assistance with adjusting to vision lost you can go to that page got here and we’ll be able to help you out. 

Do you have opportunities for volunteers?

We always have needs and opportunities for volunteers. Whether you want to come to the organization directly and help or if you want to volunteer at one of our fundraiser events, we always welcome the community at Bosma Enterprises.
