Community Link: Down Syndrome Indiana

INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) — On this week’s edition of Community Link, we discussed a central Indiana organization that’s working to promote inclusion and raise awareness for a select group of people and their family members.

Stephanie Garner of Down Syndrome Indiana discussed more.

What is Down Syndrome Indiana?

DSI is a non-profit and the mission is to enhance lives of individuals living with down syndrome. We serve from birth through adulthood as well as their families and people who love them.

What programs does DSI offer to families dealing with a diagnosed member?

One of our most important programs is definitely the new parent packets. We pass out between 200 and 300 each year.

What can we do as a community to help?

The biggest thing we can do is be inclusive. If you’re a parent of a child of school age children to get to know their classmates with down syndrome. See about establishing friendships and talk to your community organizations. DSI will be happy to come and talk to spread awareness.
