Community Link: French Lick

INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) – On this week’s edition of Community Link, we discussed a small, but well-known town in southeastern Indiana, French Lick.

The town is known for the French Lick Springs Resort complex, which includes a famous golf course and spa, as well as a casino and two refurbished hotels – one of which is on the National Historic Register and is noted as one of the best places to stay in the U.S.

To talk more about the resort, sales manager Isaac Washington stop by this week.

Give us a short history of French Lick and how the resort came to be.

The French Lick Springs Resort was built in 1845. It’s a 443 room property, it’s a member of the National Tale of America. West Baden Springs was built in 1850. It’s a 243 room property, best know for its dome and when it was built it was known as the eighth wonder of the world.

The Cook family did a complete restoration of the complex, what were some of the major changes and were they good for the area?

The Cook family’s idea was to make both properties go back to their original appearance. They felt that if they did that tourists would come. They way it’s benefiting the community is that we got more tourism, and with that tourism, its allowed us to grow economically and socially in the area.
