Community Link: Neighborhood Alliance for Child Safety

INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) — On this week’s edition of Community Link, we spoke with Clara Contreras about preserving the families and protecting the future of Indiana’s children and how the Neighborhood Alliance for Child Safety assists in that.

What is The Children’s Bureau? What kind of programs does the Children’s Bureau offer?

Children’s bureau is a non profit organization. We have been serving the Indiana community for over 167 years and all our services are focused on preserving the well-being of the children and their families. We provide many prevention programs and intervention programs. Our mission is preventing child abuse and neglect and assuring that all kids are safe.

Talk to us about the Neighborhood Alliance for Child Safety. What is it?

The NACS program is the prevention program in Marion County. It’s a voluntary and free program in Marion County, we do have kind of the same programs in other counties in Indiana, they are called community partners program. The NACS program is specifically for Marion County. We assign liaisons to work with the family and our goal is to prevent child abuse and neglect, to ensure the families receive the support and assistance that they need so the children are safe. our services are inclusive and diverse so we help all kinds of communities.

How can members of the community opt in to receive your services?

They need to call the Child Bureau. We have many different programs: the child care fund, development services and many other programs, so they call our main number. To call the NACS program they just need to call 317-870-3267 and we will take the call and guide them through the process and we help them whatever they need.
