Community Link: White River State Park

INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) — On this week’s edition of Community Link, we sat down with Sampson Levingston to talk about the upcoming initiatives of White River State Park.

What major attractions does the park include?

The park is huge it’s 250 acres of green space. We have the White River flowing through, we have the Central Canal flowing through. What many people don’t know is that White River State Park has the Indianapolis Zoo, the Eiteljorg Museum, IMAX theater, Indiana State Museum, NCAA Hall of Champions and Victory Field all called a part of it.

Tell us about your attractions.

So each have their own flavor and provide different benefits to downtown Indianapolis. So going from the zoo to Victory Field to the Hall of Champions, just walking through these different venues and attractions and our concert lawn which features more than two dozen artists each summer which is getting even better, all add a different flavor to downtown.

What are some major things coming up in the next few months?

This winter we’re going to have a lot of events going on from Christmas at the Zoo which will be open every single day from November 23 to December 30. We’ll have jingle rails at the Eiteljorg featuring Route 66 for the first time. We’ll have Santa Claus at the Indiana State Museum. the Polar Express will be showing again at the IMAX. We’ll have football games, football geared activities for the Big 10 Championship at the Hall of Champions so we have a lot of things going on.

Tell us about your special celebration for Martin Luther King Jr. Day.

So for Martin Luther King Jr. Day we’re trying to kick the year off right. We want every one down at the park. We want you to bring canned foods, bring cash to donate to Gleaners Food Bank and get into all of our attractions for free day day.
