‘Gr8 Comeback’: David & Mary cosmetics still growing after 30 years

INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) — For more than 30 years, David and Mary Miller have been in the business of skincare and cosmetics.

“I was passionate about the makeup, David was passionate about the skincare,” Mary said.

For David, the drive to pursue that passion comes from his own struggle that followed him from childhood into adulthood.

“After we got married and had kids, I still had a tremendous struggle with acne,” he said.

Throughout his career, he says he made it a point to treat his clients’ skin issues as if they were his own. After they both attended beauty school in New York, they went into business together becoming the brand David & Mary.

“We each had our own area that we could excel in, so we didn’t step on each other’s toes that much,” David remembered. “No product went into formulation or was released to be manufactured if we didn’t both agree on it.”

Before the pandemic, the business had seen its fair share of challenges over the span of three decades, but with the help of loyal clients and the ability to keep up with the times, they’ve always managed to keep the business alive.

“It’s somewhat emotional sometimes to think over all these years that you have people that will stay with you through thick and thin,” Mary said.

They’re currently operating out of The Beauty Lounge in Carmel.
