‘Gr8 Comeback’: Global Tax Service has a niche for helping small businesses
INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) — When Shara Bowling started the Global Tax Service LLC on the east side of Indianapolis, she wanted more than a business.
The business, located literally blocks from where she grew up, is helping her serve as an example for her neighborhood.
” [It’s] a beacon of hope for people around here to know that you too can do this,” Bowling said. “It doesn’t just have to be an idea, you can set your mind to it. You can start a business. Somebody from your community is actually becoming successful, doing things in the community that are benefiting us financially, setting the tone for us, creating jobs. Those are things that you don’t hear typically within our community.”
What sets her service a part is that her team isn’t just busy during tax season. They’re doors are open all year-round.
“We have business consulting services with a niche really for assisting small businesses to make sure they are set up appropriately,” she said. From tax preparation to bookkeeping, to accounting and consulting they have a vested interest in helping the little guys succeed.
They found themselves becoming more valuable during the COVID-19 pandemic; especially with other local businesses. “Businesses that were closing, you had people who didn’t have work and they were needing their tax returns.”
During what she called “frustrating” times, she was able to come up with a new idea to help business owners who struggled with technology. MyBookie is a portable system kit that business owners can use, while collaborating with the Global Tax Service team, to keep their accounting in order.
With more people having to take care of their business from home, she wanted to give businesses something to help them, not only survive, but thrive during the pandemic.
Bowling believes having ‘global’ in the name isn’t about working with people across the globe. It’s about changing lives in her own community.
“We’re a local business but those steps that we’re taking to assist our customers to become better, to follow their dreams, to do what it is that they want to do, eventually will change the world,” she said.
