‘Gr8 Comeback’: House of Beauty Miss Cutie

INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) — Over the last couple years, the House of Beauty Miss Cutie in the Washington Square Mall has become one of the biggest beauty-supply shops in Indianapolis.

Robert Gates, known as “Mr. Cutie,” started the family-owned store with his wife, Nicole “Miss Cutie” Gates, and mother Delores Booker in February 2018.

“Knowing the stuff that I know, it kind of blows them a way a little bit,” he said and laughed.

His confidence was built from humble beginnings of opening the business. “You have your doubts when you first start out,” he said. “There (were) days when we were sitting in the store and we made nothing.”

With familial support, the store not only survived but also gew significantly … especially in the hair department.

“We have a range of different products in here and different brands,” Gates said. “We have ‘Wiggy Wednesday’ (where) every Wednesday, you buy one, get the second one half-off.”

One mission Gates is most proud of at House of Beauty Miss Cutie is its ability to serve women who suffer from hair loss due to battles with lupus, alopecia and cancer.

“It feels good to know you can help someone,” he said.

Meanwhile, the store has a goal of expanding to get more customers of different backgrounds throughout Indianapolis. “We need all you ladies to come in and support.”
