‘Gr8 Comeback’: Man using social media following to support local businesses

INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) — An Indiana native’s love for food and local business has led him to start his own company spotlighting the gems in the city of Indianapolis. Now wherever he goes, more than 18,000 people follow along on social media.

Mike Gillis, known as “Mike G,” has been collaborating with restaurants, coffee shops, clothing stores and more, encouraging people to support all things local. After he promotes the business, he believes the impact can be a game changer and you don’t even have to take his word for it.

“You can see it when you go to these businesses and you talk to the owners,” Gillis said. “I’m exposing people to places and helping them learn that they do like things that are here [and] local in the city. I think I’m helping people keep jobs [and] helping businesses stay open.”

Gillis also assists long-time Indianapolis nonprofit Flanner House as a part of his efforts.

“We’ve been donating some of the proceeds of special concoctions or collaborations like the pizza we did with King Dough, so we’re at over $100,000 this year in giving back to the Indianapolis community,” he said.
