‘Gr8 Comeback’: Maxine’s Chicken & Waffles
INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) — For 13 years, Maxine’s Chicken & Waffles has been serving customers with food they say puts “A Taste of Love In Every Bite.”
From its classic chicken and waffles to its top-selling catfish dinners, cornbread and homemade peach butter, people have come downtown from all over to get a taste of their soul food menu.
General Manager Austin Bonds says, despite the restaurant’s popularity, the COVID-19 pandemic still hit them hard.
“It’s been tough,” he said. “The first few months were doing to-go only so that dropped our revenue about 75%, but since then we’ve been constantly getting sales back up.”
Bonds says they’ve reinvented their service by catering and delivering to customers themselves instead of leaning on third parties for help. They’ve also added a bar thanks to a new liquor license.
You can make a reservation to dine-in with Maxine’s or make a curbside order online. The restaurant is at 132 N. East St.
