Art meets sports with Indiana Original company Storm Striker Art

This couple is bringing art and sports together one painting at a time. Justin and Rachel Patten, owners of Storm Striker Art, joined us today to share more about their company with the help of Indiana Originals. Here’s more from them:

Indiana Originals is simplifying your search for everything local, and we’re thrilled to introduce you to our member Storm Striker, part of the Indiana Originals Father’s Day Gift Guide!

Storm Striker Art by Justin Patten began as a way for Justin to weave together his love for sports and art.  As an elementary school art teacher, Justin wanted to continue to make art himself. His sports art started with a Cubs painting for his brother as a birthday present.  His sister-in-law liked it so much that they hung it upstairs in a place of honor, and Storm Striker Art began.

For about a decade Justin has been a licensed painter for 12 NCAA teams. He seeks to capture the energy of the last moments of a sporting event with bold color and brush strokes.  This movement and energy seemed like a perfect fit with the excitement of the Indianapolis Motor Speedway, so Justin was thrilled to become a licensed artist for the track in 2018. He also paints custom paintings from a photo.  These make very special gifts for Christmas, birthdays, anniversaries, Father’s Day and more.  His paintings are accessibly priced because Justin and his wife and partner Rachel believe that everyone should have access to real art in their homes.  He paints portraits, pets, landscapes, and more in his own unique style.

When the quarantine began in March of 2020, Rachel lost her job and the family had to pivot, like much of the world.  Enthusiasm had been building over Storm Striker paintings, so Justin and Rachel decided to add a line of merchandise using the popular artwork.  They spent the next couple of months finding local vendors to help support the local community and local shops to sell in.  They developed a line of apparel, hats, flags, ornaments, vinyl stickers, LED lights, and drinkware.  With Justin still teaching full-time at Stonegate Elementary, the business truly is a family affair, being run by Justin and Rachel, with lots of help from their boys, Troy Storm (11) and Lyle Striker (13).

They currently have officially licensed paintings and merchandise for the Indianapolis Motor Speedway, Purdue, Butler, Auburn, Michigan State, Iowa, Ohio State, NC State, UNC, Ball State, Tennessee, Clemson, and were recently licensed with IU and IUPUI, so be looking for paintings and merchandise later this month!

Storm Striker Art paintings and merchandise can be found at stormstriker.com.  Some items are also sold locally at B. Erin Designs in Speedway, Sullivan’s Hardware and Garden in Broad Ripple, Back to the Bricks in Zionsville, and Home Grown Indiana at Hamilton Town Center.  Merchandise can also be found through Indiana Originals at Indiana.gifts.

Just before the quarantine hit, Storm Striker Art contracted with a large company called Evergreen Enterprises to make a line of Justin Patten NFL, MLB, NHL, and over 70 NCAA teams.  Their line of NFL flags will be sold in over 300 Sam’s Clubs stores through July and August.  If you are looking for any of the Justin Patten pro or NCAA line, just google search “Justin Patten” and your favorite team.  Evergreen sells to over 21,000 retail stores. They are currently making flags, drinkware, and ornaments.
