It’s that time again, the 2021 design trends and color palettes are here! Danielle Myers, ASID, RID, Proprietor of Elle Designs, joined us today with the design and color forecast for 2021. Here’s more from her:
Color direction in Interior Design is heavily influenced by many sources and often starts on the runway in fashion design and the environment that we live in.
We then see it trickle into home interiors through paint colors, home furnishings and finish materials.
We heavily rely on paint manufactures to forecast what’s to come, they tend to be 12-18 months ahead of mainstream consumers in their color trend forecasting.
2021 Paint Colors of the Year
- PPG Paints is introducing 3 Paint Colors of 2021. Transcend PPG-1079-4, Misty Aqua PPG-1147-3, & Big Cypress PPG-1062-5. They reflect on wellbeing, sustainability and human connection. Moving past fear, transcending our limitations and aiming for a more balanced world by connecting with our fellow humans with compassion and kindness.
- Behr Paints has developed “The BEHR Color Trends 2021 Palette” composed of a curated selection of hues to create a desired mood that complements your style in any space. Calming, Subtle, Casual, Quiet, Optimistic, & Outdoors are all descriptive of this palette.
- Benjamin Moore has selected Aegan Teal 2136-40, creates natural harmony. Nourish the spirit with the comforting, sunbaked hues of the Color Trends 2021 palette. Celebrate the simple pleasures, the palette radiates warmth and wellbeing.
- Sherwin Williams has released their color, Urban Bronze SW 70-48. Tap into nature with a hue whose warmth and comfort breathe down-to-earth tranquility. Capturing that simple sophistication every space is searching for.
How are these colors selected and developed?
Paint companies gather 12+ months of data based on global travel influencers, looking at cultural shifts and consumer’s mindsets moving forward.
Looking through naturalistic environments start to formulate their color palettes.
This year, like none other, there is a need for calming environments in this unsettling time starting with paint on the walls.
