Creating paper microscope slides with scientist Rick Crosslin

INDIANAPOLIS — (WISH) Scientist Rick Crosslin joined us today for an exciting family-friendly activity! He taught us how to make paper microscope slides to collect and observe “specimens” around the house! Here are the instructions for this fun investigation!

Materials needed:

  1. scissors
  2. clear tape
  3. index card or paper
  4. rock, salt, dead bug, or other household items
  5. a hand lens, toothpicks, microscope, tape, index cards, scissors, pencil

Cut out a center diamond (bend and cut out)
Turn slide over Put clear tape over the hole  
Turn slide over Place specimen on tape
Put clear tape over the specimen
Label:  SALT    Make observations: _________________
