Embrace the winter months as an opportunity for adventure while also getting fit

It’s wintertime in Indiana and the cold weather isn’t going anywhere. While it’s tempting to stay indoors cuddled up with a good book and a cup of tea, we can’t hibernate these next few months because it comes at the expense of our health.

News 8’s medical reporter, Dr. Mary Gillis, D.Ed., spoke with Dr. Libby Richards, scientists at Purdue University. Richards shared tips about how we can use the cold weather to our advantage and why exercising outdoors during the season can result in increased calorie burn as compared to summer months without any extra effort. She also provided a list of adventurous activities to try that are so fun they don’t even feel like exercise.
