INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) – Wednesday is Inauguration Day. It’s the passing of the torch and regardless of where you fall on the political spectrum, change can be difficult.

News 8’s medical reporter, Dr. Mary Gillis, spoke with Dr. Danielle Henderson. Here’s what she had to say about embracing this change.

“We need to recognize that change is happening and we need to be aware of what’s coming up for us. What emotions we might be experiencing and–as best we can–acknowledge those and label those while also saying to yourself: I know this is coming…I know how this might make me feel. What are things I might be able to do to cope with my emotions and my response to this change?”

Henderson recommends asking yourself what you do have control over, what you don’t have control over and focus on the things you do have control over. She says make sure to take care of yourself–physically, emotionally and mentally. Also, take change in stride–meaning take it day by day.
