Indy’s Presidential Site celebrates President Harrison’s Birthday with special free event

Happy 187th Birthday, President Benjamin Harrison!

To celebrate, the Presidential Site in Indianapolis is giving FREE first floor tours, from the front porch outdoor programs with President Harrison himself (re-enactor Charles Braun) and cupcakes for all who attend.

Charles Hyde, President & CEO, Benjamin Harrison Presidential Site explains:

If viewers would like to visit in person, Live! President Harrison’s Birthday is free to attend. Take a first floor tour of this beautiful 10,000 sq.ft. Italianate Victorian family home of President Benjamin Harrison – our country’s 23rd US President (1889-1893) and Indiana’s only President. Built in 1875, the home is beautifully furnished with many of Harrison’s paintings, furniture, and other artifacts including political memorabilia. Tours start in the Welcome Center. Reservations are required and limited. Masks are required and social distancing will be maintained.

• The home of America’s Hoosier president serves as a museum open year-round for guided tours.
• The 1875 Italianate mansion is exquisitely restored, and has an exceptional collection of more than 10,000 artifacts
• The museum is a National Historic Landmark situated within easy walking distance of downtown Indianapolis and the bustling 16th street corridor

A little about Harrison
While Benjamin Harrison was the 43rd tallest president at only 5’6”, his stature as a leader for our country (and only president elected from Indiana) is much greater than at first it might appear.
Harrison was a forward thinker, a great orator, a lifelong scholar, and a truly brilliant man.
He addressed immigration issues and opened Ellis Island, dealt decisively with crisis and the environment, and calmed unrest overseas. He was a respected Civil War General, a man whose ethics were beyond reproach, and a Progressive who ushered in the modern presidency.
