McFarling Monday: Meet Chef Mike of Smokin’ Barrel BBQ

Smoked meats… sides… and FREE Banana Pudding? Say what?!

In our kitchen today, we welcome back Aldy Labrador, the Director of Business Development for McFarling Foods, and meet Chef Mike McFarland of Smokin’ Barrel BBQ!

Here’s more from Aldy, as she explains the importance of the relationship McFarling has with their customers:

Not only are we partners with our customers, but we are unique and different because we are truly LOCAL. We are owned and operated right here in Indy, not a national company. So what happens in this community is very important to us. This is where we live and work and raise our own families, too. That’s what sets us apart from the others. Our slogan “Anyone can sell you food. But wouldn’t you rather have a partner” means that we will be there for you. We will be involved in helping your restaurant succeed. We have tons of ways to help, from free banners and signs and QR codes. And we’re going to be there in person for you, not just taking your orders on a website. (But we can do that, too!) Trust between McFarling Foods and restaurant partners is very important, and we have to earn it. But part of it also, is that our people have the experience as restaurant operators. We know because we have been there. That experience and trust means a lot.

Smokin’ Barrel BBQ is a family-owned and operated dining experience. Established in 2016 by husband and wife team Mike and CJ McFarland as a backyard competition. The McFarland family is community focused, actively involved in 4H and other church and school groups. Our passion is great food with friends and family. People always ask us, ‘What are you? Texas? Are you guys Memphis BBQ? Carolina BBQ?’ And really, we do Hoosier BBQ. They’re like, ‘do Hoosiers do BBQ?” and I’m like, ‘well, we do now!’”, says Mike. Their menu of tender meats is keto friendly, with dry rubs that are sugar free. Sauce is not boss – the meats stand alone. All of their meats – brisket, pulled pork, ribs, and chicken – are smoked low and slow over locally sourced and seasoned wood. Their brisket, which is always sliced, never chopped, is perfect for your next community event. Their pulled-pork has become a refrigerator staple for many families.
Based on the Southeast-side of Indianapolis, at 2316 S German Church Rd., Smokin’ Barrel BBQ travels all around Central Indiana for pop-ups or to cater special events.
