Naptown Roller Derby rolls into a new season with opening bout on Saturday
Lace ’em up and start skating! It’s time for some ROLLER DERBY!
On today’s Indy Style, Naptown Skaters Dora the Destroyer and Jacqui Langer, (along with Diamond) tell us more about Naptown’s season opener and the action-packed double-header!
**UPDATE**: SEVERE WEATHER CANCELLATION: Here’s the statement from Naptown Roller Derby:
Naptown has been monitoring the approaching winter storm, and we unfortunately will be cancelling our bout on Saturday, Jan. 19, due to forecasted severe weather conditions. We were excited to begin the year with you, but we must do what is best for the safety of our skaters, the visiting Gem City teams, and our beloved fans, volunteers, and officials. We are exploring options to reschedule this exciting matchup for later in the year, and we will post more information as it is available. For those who have already purchased tickets, we will honor those at any Season 13 game. If you’d prefer a refund, please reach out to tickets@naptownrollerderby.com. Thank you for your enthusiasm and support for our 13th season. We hope to see you at our next home bout (and silent auction!) on March 30 at the Indiana State Fairgrounds!
• Roller derby is a competitive, full contact sport. You may have seen scripted roller derby on TV in the ’70s, but the modern sport is athletic and 100% real.
• Roller derby bouts are great fun for fans of all ages, including kids! Snacks, beer, and Naptown merch will all be available to purchase.
• Indianapolis is a great city for roller derby. Naptown’s Tornado Sirens have advanced 17 spots to be ranked #28 in the world. That’s out of over 300 flat-track roller derby teams worldwide.
• Naptown hosts roller derby basics workshops throughout the year where folks who are 18+ can learn more about this quickly growing sport. The next workshop is Jan. 26—find more details at the websites below.
