We make resolutions for the new year, let’s make some for our home, New Year New Home! 20 Year Home Improvement & Lifestyle Expert Kathryn Emery shows us four projects to do in 2021.
Resolutions are: 1. Get organized (garage) 2. Clean home 3. Sustainability at home “Reuse” (images of microfiber, but will have other items on table) 4. Smart home- update light bulbs (have demo for on air)
What’s a top project for home?
Organize the garage! When organized, the garage can serve as another room.
Invest in a system that has multiple options for everything you need, personalized for your own space.
I just installed the Rubbermaid® FastTrack® Rail Garage Storage System in my own garage. The 7 Piece Kit is all-in-one kit that was quick and easy to install, and had all the accessories I wanted to get everything off the ground and onto my walls. FastTrack rail uses vertical space to reduce floor clutter and allows you to keep everything handy.
I love the variety of accessories to build this out for my space. I especially needed somewhere to put a bike and ladder that were always in the way! (the ladder hook is already included in the kit – can we instead call out EITHER a multipurpose hook to store lawn chairs, step stools, shovels or rakes, OR a 2-handle hook to store shovels or tennis rackets)? Your choice!
This kit comes with everything you need to get started, and it is customizable with easy-to-attach accessories: shelves, bins, cabinets, racks, large and small hooks, and more. The accessory system allows you to store what you need in your garage space, from tools, to ladders, bikes, balls, gardening equipment and more…really anything you need!
And now that everything is off the floors, clean them! Use the Quickie® 2-in-1 Squeegee Push Broom! You can grab it at Home Depot and it’s a 2-in-1 tool, with a professional-grade squeegee to tackle wet messes, and a broom.
How Do We Have A Healthy Home for 2021?
Thwart Germs: Germs start at the door, on the floors, stop them there and throughout with one cleaner. Start with the floors!
Our floors see the world get tracked into our homes everyday with dirty shoes that travel throughout the house. A great defense against germs is cleaning your floors with an antibacterial cleaner that will kill 99 percent of bacteria within 5 seconds.
Rejuvenate’s Antibacterial Floor Cleaner will disinfect hard, non-porous surfaces so tile, vinyl, wood floors. Start with the floors but this cleaning magic on walls, cabinets, countertops, showers, toilets, garbage cans and other non-porous surfaces in your home.
Any Ways to Be More Sustainable/Save Money at Home?
Live Sustainably/Save Money: Let’s Reuse as the saying goes, Reduce, Reuse, Recycle. Mighty microfiber does so much for a home.
Unlike standard cotton cloths or paper towels, Microfiber acts as a magnet to effectively remove dirt, dust, and allergens, and bacteria. That’s because microfibers are incredibly tiny (smaller than a human hair) and they are looped thousands of times. They are also super absorbent, which make them great for cleaning up spills and messes. They will save money too – simply wash and reuse over and over.
Also Reuse take out containers – we all are ordering in much more, when you can wash and reuse to prevent plastic waste. Jars make excellent storage. Plastic shopping bags make great packing materials for mailing a package.
What is a smart home must for 2021?
Add style your life with a simple but smart light bulb!
Full Color LED bulbs can be used as a part of your decor – accent a wall, change the color based on your activity like watching a movie, or right now have them help with decorating for the holidays – there are a million of colors to choose from. You can connect them to Google or Alexa and control them with your voice.
The nice thing is for everyday use they go in between the various whites – so illuminate the kitchen where you want to do tasks in what they call daylight (that blue bright white) but in the same light bulb you can change to warm light, that yellowish soft white light for relaxing. Plus, they are dimmable.
