“Shazam!,” “Pet Sematary” and more open in theaters this weekend
Superheroes, a creepy reboot and more hit theaters this weekend, but what’s worth watching?
The Film Yap’s Christopher Lloyd shares his take on the new films in theaters:
Shazam! — We’ve had superhero comedies and superhero gross-out flicks — are you ready for a kiddie flick? It’s “Big” meets “Superman” as a boy transforms into a caped crusader.
The Best of Enemies — Taraji P. Henson is a civil rights activist and Sam Rockwell is a KKK leader who square off over school integration in 1970s North Carolina.
The Public — Emilio Estevez wrote, directed and stars in this drama about a nebbish library worker who gets caught up in a protest by homeless men. With Alec Baldwin and Jena Malone.
Pet Sematary — Stephen King’s tale about dead critters that come back to life gets a creepy reboot that wasn’t screened for critics.
Diane — Mary Kay Place plays a middle-aged mom struggling with a drug-addicted son as her own grasp on reality begins to fade.
The Mule — Clint Eastwood stars and directs in this true story of a WWII veteran who became the best drug courier of the cartels. Stream It.
