The Film Yap’s movies to watch at home: ‘The Way Back,’ ‘The Painter and the Thief,’ ‘Military Wives,’ more

Movie theaters may be shut down right now, but there are still new movies for you to watch being released online regularly. We checked in with Christopher Lloyd of The Film Yap to see what’s streaming, available on disc, and On-Demand.

New On Digital/Demand:

The Painter and the Thief — A Czech painter strikes up an unlikely friendship with the drug addict who stole one of her prized works in this affecting documentary.

Military Wives — Kristin Scott Thomas and Sharon Horgan star in this inspiring dramedy about a group of British wives who formed a singing group after their husbands were deployed to Afghanistan.

The Trip to Greece — The latest in the series of traveling friendship tales starring Rob Brydon and Steve Coogan, as they trek in the footsteps of Odysseus. Bob Bloom calls it “enjoyable comfort food cinema…. a blend of comedy, travelogue and culinary journey.”

Land of LIttle Rivers — This documentary explores a band of tributaryies in the Catskill Mountains that gave birth to the sport of fly-fishing.

New on Disc:

The Way Back — Ben Affleck gives one of his finest performances as an alcoholic brought back to coach basketball at the high school where he was a legend 25 years ago.

Emma — One of the best movies of the year, this is a joyous, colorful and musical adaptation of the Jane Austen novel starring Anya Taylor-Joy.

Cool on Streaming:

Blood & Water — This new Netflix series looks at a South African teen who goes on a quest to find out if another student at her new school is her long-lost sister abducted years ago.
