Tips to address racism from Child Advocates
Interrupting Racism for Children workshops will resume in the community when the organizers can safely gather in-person, says Jill English, director of Interrupting Racism for Children. These are two-day workshops hosted by child advocates that allows the community to come in and get foundational information about systematic racism and receive tools to interrupt that process.
Initially, Child Advocates got into anti-racism work to address the racial disparities within the child welfare system. This workshop is for everyone, not just those who work with children.
In the meantime, here are a few tips to address racism:
- Look within to understand your own biases regarding race.
- Have difficult conversations about racism with your children, friends and family.
- Use your voice on social media to take a stand against racism.
- Support organizations that are working to combat racism.
Individuals committed to this work also make excellent CASA Volunteers. Here are CASA Virtual Volunteer Information Session Dates:
- June 10 @ 7 p.m.
- June 13 @ 9:30 a.m.
- June 18 @ 7 p.m.
