Georgia woman accused of putting dead newborn in freezer

MARIETTA, Ga. (AP) – Authorities say a Georgia woman put her newborn son in the freezer after he died.

The Atlanta Journal-Constitution cites a Cobb County police arrest warrant that says 45-year-old Carol June Sautter gave birth to the full-term baby in June, but the boy did not survive. The Cobb County Medical Examiner’s Office said Wednesday that it’s currently unknown whether the boy was born alive.

Sautter’s arrest warrant says she didn’t notify authorities of the death, but sent text messages to multiple people that included photos of the deceased. The photographs showed the newborn still had a portion of his umbilical cord attached.

The results of an autopsy are still pending.

Sautter is charged with concealing a death and is being held without bond. It’s unclear whether she has a lawyer.

The investigation is ongoing.
