Hoosiers on spring break turn tables on would-be robber

OAKLAND PARK, Fla. (WISH) — A group of Hoosiers on spring break turned the tables on a would-be robber at a gas station.

According to WPLG in Miami, a group of cousins had stopped at a gas station in South Beach. While filling up their car, a masked man with a gun approached them.

“I tried to find a gas station that was closest because we were running low on gas,” Alex Wisbey told WPLG. Wisbey is a recent graduate of Ivy Tech in Lawrenceburg.

Gas station surveillance video shows the group begin wrestling with the would-be robber.

An accomplice later joined the fracas.

The Hoosiers were able to disarm the suspect and ultimately ended up pointing his own weapon at him.

Aric Wisbey, a current student at Ivy Tech, said that instinct kicked in.

“Then my cousin, Jacob, gets on top of him and I’m in there, trying to wrestle around for the gun,” Aric Wisbey told WPLG.

The accomplice, 33-year-old Kevin Campbell was arrested shortly after. The masked man is yet to be arrested.

“If there is a situation and a moment where you can wrestle the gun away or protect yourself, or your family or friends, absolutely do that,” Alex Wisbey told WPLG. “Do not second-guess yourself.”

Alex and Aric said that they have experience handling firearms and they have concealed carry permits in Indiana.
