Husband fatally shoots wife inside Taco Bell

DORAL, Fla. (WFLA) – Authorities say a man shot and killed his wife inside of a Taco Bell in Florida before turning the gun on himself, The Miami Herald reports. 

The shooting took place at a KFC/Taco Bell restaurant in Doral at about 11 a.m., just an hour after the business opened.

Police told reporters the couple, who they did not identify, had been having relationship issues. 

The man parked his car in front of the restaurant, then walked in and asked for his wife.

“They had some type of domestic dispute in the lobby area that escalated into a physical confrontation when he pulled out a firearm and began shooting at his wife,” Miami-Dade police spokesman Alvaro Zabaleta told the newspaper.

The 51-year-old woman tried to leave through the backdoor, but her husband followed her and shot her one more time. Then he went back into the lobby and shot himself, police said.

Five people—four employees and a manager—inside the restaurant at the time were not hurt. 

Police said the couple leaves behind a child who was not there when they were killed. The woman also has an adult son from a previous relationship. 

“As we say too many times on these scenes, domestic violence kills,” Zabaleta said. “If you don’t take care of these domestic issues they do escalate and it ends up in a tragedy like the one we have today. We have now a child that’s a minor who’s obviously going to be without Mom and Dad.”
