SAN FRANCISCO (KRON) – What was meant to be a tongue-in-cheek joke about shredding kids’ letters to Santa turned out to be far from funny

The UPS Store on Sunday tweeted, “If your child addresses a letter to the North Pole, you can leave it with us. We do shredding.”

UPS deleted the tweet Monday after noticing “things [were] going in the wrong direction,” officials told BuzzFeed News.

“We did not want to take away from the magic of Christmas,” said Staci Reidinger, a public relations representative for the company. “[The tweet] was just to get people laughing.”

A few Twitter users voiced their opinions on the tweet, comparing it to the Grinch or Scrooge.
