Waffle House hero gets personal call from President Trump

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WKRN) – President Donald Trump called Waffle House hero James Shaw Monday to commend him for his actions.

The Deputy Press Secretary confirmed the call at Monday’s media briefing at the White House.

“The morning the president had a call with James Shaw Jr. to commend his heroic actions and quick thinking last month at a Waffle House in Tennessee. Mr. Shaw saved lives when he wrestled a gun from an active shooter who had opened fire.”

Shaw was inside the Waffle House when a gunman killed four people and injured several others.

He courageously jumped the shooter, grabbed an AR-15 out of his hand and threw it over the diner counter.

Shaw has since maintained that he does not consider himself a hero.

Travis Reinking, the accused gunman, was arrested after a more than 24 hour manhunt. He is currently jailed without bond.
