1 dead, 1 jailed after 2-vehicle crash in Hancock County

WALLACE, Ind. (WISH) — One person is dead and another is in jail after a Tuesday afternoon crash in Hancock County.

Authorities responded around 3:26 p.m. Tuesday to the intersection of State Road 234 and County Road 600 East on a report of a two-vehicle crash.

An initial investigation by the Hancock County Fatal Accident Crash Team determined that a 2003 Buick LeSabre driven by Iran Taylor, 21, of Indianapolis, was traveling north on County Road 600 East. Witnesses told investigators the LeSabre had passed many vehicles waiting at a stop sign and entered the intersection, where it collided with a 2015 Kia Forte driven by Madison Durham-Weston, 19, of Greenfield, traveling west on State Road 234, the Hancock County Sheriff’s office said.

Reno Cook, 22, of New Castle, was sitting in the LeSabre’s right rear passenger side and died in the crash. Christopher Hossman, 36, of Anderson; Joshua Pope, 46, of Mount Summit; Bobby Evans, 57, of Terre Haute, were also in the LeSabre and were taken to area hospitals for injuries sustained in the crash. Their conditions were not provided, the sheriff’s office said.

Both Durham-Weston and Taylor submitted to chemical tests. Taylor tested positive for THC and was arrested on preliminary felony charges of OWI causing death and reckless homicide.

Taylor on Tuesday night remained in the Hancock County Jail, online records show.

The crash remained under investigation.
